The importing-exporting of certain goods is however subject of some measures of control, if regarded as a general interest of the national economy.

The strengthening Euro - is it good or bad for Europe's economy?
2008-07-04
The euro has shown itself to be a strong currency
Turmoil in the financial markets and the rising costs of fuel and food are dominating the international headlines and creating fear in the international economy. Against this background is the strength of the euro on the international exchanges. We spoke to some MEPs from countries both with and without the euro - and asked them if the strength of the currency was helping or hurting their economies. We also asked them whether other countries - who have opted out of the euro - should now join.

Turmoil in the financial markets and the rising costs of fuel and food are dominating the international headlines and creating fear in the international economy. Against this background is the relative strength of the euro on the international exchanges. We spoke to some MEPs who represent countries both with and without the euro - and asked them if the strength of the currency was helping or hindering their economies. We also asked them whether other countries - who have opted out of the single currency - should now consider joining.

Speaking to MEPs on Monday 30 June Europe's monetary affairs commissioner Joaquín Almunia said he thought "the euro is overvalued - it is too high right now".

FDI Affects On The Economic Growth
2008-06-13
Foreign direct investment (FDI) is known as movement of capital across national frontiers in a way that grants the investor control over the acquired asset.
That is how it is distinct from portfolio investment which may cross borders, but does not offer such control over the business. Firms which supply for FDI are known as multinational enterprises and in this case control is defined as owning 10% or greater of the common shares of an incorporated firm. In the years after the Second World War FDI in general was dominated by the United States, as much of the world recovered from the destruction formed by the conflict of the war.
The U.S. was quick at realizing that Foreign Direct Investment is to become a real gold mine. It accounted for around three-quarters of new FDI between 1945 and 1960. Since that time FDI has become a truly global phenomenon; countries with different economic development can enjoy its benefits now, not only well industrialized ones. Currently the importance of FDI can be measured by its share in the global GDP, which comprises of 20% brought in by FDI capital.

To different investors - the different policy
2008-04-15
By quantity of conferences on a theme of investments, Russia continues to keep one of the first places in the world, however positive shifts aside increases in volumes of external investments is not observed. All serious federal and regional programs include, as a rule, problems "increases of investment appeal", improvements of "an investment climate", potential, etc.
However in practice all is limited to updating of the legislation, allocation of privileges, selection of investment projects and analysis of local conflicts between investors and the enterprises. It is represented, that the essence of a problem is covered in different treatments of huge quantity of "investment" terms from what deep misunderstanding real components of investment appeal results.
It is obvious, that investment appeal – is subjective concept.
Therefore it is necessary to understand, what factors do the country or region attractive to investors. Base (threshold) conditions of conducting investment activity in region - sociopolitical factors, legislatively-normative, organizational-economic, a condition of judicial system, etc. - interest all investors, irrespective of their investment priorities.

Column by John Burley
Whether on your own or with an adviser, finding the right buyer requires planning, negotiation, and flexibility.
Putting your company on the market should not be taken lightly. The process involves many steps and requires a well thought-out plan. Unlike real estate or the stock market, there is no single listing of businesses for sale. So, how do you reach potential buyers without the whole world, especially competitors and customers, knowing that your company is for sale? How do you set yourself up for effective negotiations? How do you present your business effectively? What steps are involved?

A Franchisor’s Mixed Blessing

By C. John Woodburn

The dictionary defines growth as progress toward maturity, and development as an expansion or improvement on potentialities, capabilities, etc.

From a franchisor’s viewpoint, sustained growth is a sign of success and a beacon for franchisee prospects. Whether the franchisor has two, 12 or 22 outlets, he/she want to see his/her system expand. This mostly means extra income through its revenue sources (i.e. royalties, rebates, etc.)

With growth, the system must develop. More years lead to more experience, as well as a larger resource of knowledge and guidance for franchisees.

So, is growth the idol to be worshiped?

By Todd Lange

After you have completed the business incorporation process, don't expect that your work is done. Actually, the real work is just starting. Being a corporation means that you are not the center of the business anymore. You have your partners, stockholders, and shareholders to think about.
